Senior Database Developer

For our customer in Vienna, we are looking for a Senior Database Developer. We are looking for a contractor with at least +5 years of relevant technical experience in systems analysis, development and programming using SQL Server is required.

EU candidates are welcome to apply. Candidates need to be based in Vienna or willing to relocate to Vienna.

Work permit is not provided. Candidates need to be fluent in English.

Tasks and responsibilities:

• Write and optimize complex SQL queries for performance;
• Review and rewrite stored procedures, functions, and views to improve efficiency if needed;
• Troubleshoot and resolve query performance issues;
• Implement indexing strategies for optimizing query performance;

• Develop and maintain data transformation and ETL processes;
• Analyze execution plans to identify slow queries and implement query tuning techniques;
• Use SQL Server Profiler or Extended Events to diagnose performance bottlenecks;
• Troubleshoot deadlocks, blocking, and other concurrency issue;
• Set up, maintain database backups;
• Manage user roles, permissions, and security policies;
• Automate routine database maintenance tasks such as index rebuilding, updating statistics, and checking database integrity;
• Implement and manage job schedules (e.g., maintenance plans, cleanup tasks, backups);
• Ensure proper database consistency and health, fixing issues;
• Provide support for clients during performance issues, guiding them through root cause analysis and resolution;

• Assist with troubleshooting database-related application problems (e.g., slow response times or timeouts);
• Provide ongoing consulting on database-related architecture and performance improvements;
• Perform any other work-related duties as required;

Profile:

• Bachelor or Master degree;
• +5 years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems or related area;
• +5 years of relevant technical experience in systems analysis, development and programming using SQL Server is required;
• Experience with agile development approaches and associated development techniques;
• Experience with frameworks such as Microsoft TFS/Azure Devops is desirable;
• Fluent in English;
