About the Opportunity
The Senior Manager, Machine Learning is a high-impact leadership role overseeing the Small Dollar Loans (SDL) and Cash Line ML teams. You will lead the development of underwriting and pricing models for subscription-based lines of credit and short-term loans designed for underserved borrowers. This role is at the intersection of high-level research and production scaling, requiring a leader who can navigate the complexities of credit risk and customer behavior (churn/default) while ensuring that ML solutions align with capital market requirements and broader business performance.
Responsibilities
- Model Innovation: Lead the early-stage development of ML models for new Cash Line products, focusing on customer behavior, churn, and default risk.
- Underwriting Excellence: Refine and improve SDL underwriting models to create a scalable framework for small-dollar credit.
- Decision Engineering: Design and optimize decision engines that translate complex model outputs into clear, automated lending outcomes.
- Validation & Metrics: Develop and validate rigorous performance metrics to ensure system reliability and secure confidence from capital market partners.
- Team Leadership: Attract, mentor, and grow a world-class team of ML scientists, fostering a culture of technical rigor and rapid execution.
- Cross-Functional Strategy: Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Capital Markets to integrate ML capabilities into the core business strategy.
- Execution: Bridge the gap between research and production, ensuring models are deployed efficiently and monitored for long-term accuracy.

Requirements
- Experience: 6+ years of experience developing and deploying ML models with measurable financial impact; proven history of leading high-impact projects from research through to production.
- Education: Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- Technical Depth: Strong technical judgment in model design and data analysis; proficiency in production ML environments and modern technology stacks.
- Business Intuition: Exceptional statistical and economic intuition, with the ability to make sound decisions in uncertain or data-limited environments.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading and developing technical teams of ML scientists.
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience building and scaling new ML-driven products from the ground up.
- Familiarity with small-dollar lending or consumer finance (outside of traditional banking).
- Hands-on experience with ML infrastructure, including feature stores, pipelines, and monitoring tools.
