The START Center for Cancer Research (“START”) is the world’s largest early phase site network, fully dedicated to oncology clinical research. We are seeking a HR Operations Specialist who will be responsible for executing and supporting end-to-end HR operational processes that directly impact HRIS and payroll data accuracy. This role ensures that employee lifecycle events - from onboarding through termination - are processed correctly, consistently, and in alignment with upstream inputs and downstream payroll, reporting, and compliance outcomes.
This is a remote role. The annual base salary for this role is $70,000 - $85,000. However, base pay may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Work Schedule: M-F, 8am-5pm

The Specialist partners closely with global HR Operations, Payroll, HR Business Partners, and other shared services to maintain data integrity across systems, identify process gaps, and continuously improve workflows. Success in this role requires strong understanding of how timekeeping, HRIS transactions, approvals, and audits connect across systems and impact employees, managers, and the organization as a whole.
Essential Responsibilities
Timekeeping & Payroll Support:
- Monitor and coordinate the completion, review, and approval of employee timecards, ensuring a accuracy of inputs and understanding downstream payroll impact.
- Review timekeeping data for trends or anomalies that may indicate process breakdowns or data quality issues.
- Parter with HRBPs to resolve issues before payroll processing deadlines.
- Process payroll edits, including corrections to timecards, pay codes, and hours, in collaboration with managers and payroll teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for timekeeping inquiries and troubleshooting within the HR team.
- Execute and validate employee data transactions across HRIS and payroll systems, ensuring accuracy from initiation through final payroll output.
- Assess and validate change requests to confirm completeness, proper approvals, and system alignment before processing.
- Conduct regular cross-system audits to ensure data consistency and identify root causes of discrepancies.
- Document recurring issues and recommend process or system improvements.
- Collaborate with internal HR partners to validate and process changes affecting pay and employment status.

- Monitor and respond to employee inquiries through the electronic HR mailbox and ticketing system in collaboration with HR Business Partners, ensuring timely and professional guidance and support to promote trust and clarity.
- Maintain accurate and organized personnel files and documentation in compliance with company policy and applicable regulations.
- Troubleshoot HRIS and payroll issues by identifying root causes across systems, workflows, or handoffs.
- Participate in testing, audits, and process reviews related to HRIS and payroll changes.
- Support documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process maps to improve clarity and consistency.
- Support HR projects, data reporting, and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- 5+ years of combined experience with HRIS data administration or records maintenance, or payroll coordination, including timekeeping and system data entry.
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience in a multi-state, multi-site or global organization.
- aPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP or HRIS certification, preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with end-to-end HR or payroll processes, not just isolated transactions.
- Experience identifying and resolving data or process issues across multiple HR systems.
- Ability to interpret how HR data changes affect payroll, reporting, and employee experience.
- Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Paycom, Insperity) and HRIS platforms.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.
- Ability to troubleshoot system or data issues with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Familiarity with employment laws and HR best practices.
