Job Description
Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced Principal Quest Designer to help shape high-impact questing and outdoor gameplay experiences for World of Warcraft.
As a senior individual contributor and quest design expert, you will own and shape the most complex quest content and systems for the game. In this role, you will serve as an in-house franchise-level subject matter authority, influencing questing standards, design approaches, and player experience across World of Warcraft, while helping raise the bar across the quest design team through mentorship, collaboration, and craft excellence.
Operating with a high degree of autonomy and discretion, you will tackle ambiguous, high-impact design challenges and help define scalable best practices and design frameworks that inform long-term direction. You will collaborate closely with designers, engineers, artists, producers, QA, and leadership to bring quest content from initial pitch through final implementation, ensuring consistency, quality, and authenticity throughout. We value diverse voices and varied backgrounds, and we are looking for individuals who will help us build fun, compelling, and inclusive gameplay experiences for World of Warcraft.
This role offers a flexible hybrid work week from our Irvine, CA or Boston, MA studio locations, with a mix of remote and on-site days. While hybrid is the standard arrangement, you are also welcome to work on-site full-time if you prefer.
Responsibilities

- Help express the story of World of Warcraft through excellent exploration, gameplay, and activities.
- Act as a franchise-level expert for questing and outdoor gameplay, providing guidance on high-impact, high-complexity content and systemic design.
- Independently drive solutions to complex design challenges, balancing creative, technical, systemic, and production considerations.
- Partner with designers, engineers, artists, QA, producers, and leads to plan, implement, document, and test quest content that contributes to a cohesive World of Warcraft experience.
- Establish and uphold quest design standards, best practices, and scalable design frameworks, influencing work across multiple teams and initiatives.
- Mentor team members through design iteration, problem-solving, and implementation best practices, elevating overall craft quality.
- Identify and advocate for process improvements that strengthen the quest design pipeline and support long-term franchise development goals.
- Promote, contribute to, and participate in Blizzard’s culture of inclusion, diversity, and collaboration.
