Senior Back End Engineer – API Platform



About the Role

Responsibilities



  • Define and evolve mortgage domain models in code with forward-looking scalability
  • Design, build, and maintain a core GraphQL API used by external customers
  • Contribute to an event-driven architecture that communicates system actions and outcomes
  • Create clear abstractions and documentation to simplify complex workflows
  • Collaborate closely with SMEs and customers to iterate on API design
  • Own full API lifecycle:
  • Versioning
  • Managing breaking changes
  • Developer onboarding

  • Qualifications



    • Education: Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution (e.g., MIT, Waterloo)


    Required Skills



    • Professional experience building backend services with TypeScript
    • Proven track record designing and deploying production-grade GraphQL APIs
    • Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Temporal)


    Preferred Skills



    • Non-traditional path into engineering (e.g., career switchers, founders, self-taught builders)
    • Strong product intuition and customer empathy


    Pay range and compensation package



    • Salary: $140K – $250K
