Senior Mobile and Back-end Platform Lead

This is a maker-leader role — 75% high-impact coding, 25% technical leadership. You'll own our mobile and back-end platform, set the technical direction for the team, and directly manage and mentor three developers. Our CTO currently fills this role; this hire frees them to focus on hardware, firmware, and strategic growth.

You are not a manager who used to code. You are a strong developer who also leads — and leads by example.

• Lead mobile development across iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin), setting quality and architectural standards.
• Own back-end infrastructure: API design, cloud architecture, DevOps practices, and reliability.
• Manage and grow two developers — setting clear direction, conducting code reviews, and actively mentoring.
• Collaborate directly with our CTO on architectural decisions across the full stack.
• Identify technical risk early and drive solutions that balance speed and long-term quality.

• Establish and enforce engineering best practices across the team.

Mobile: Swift (iOS), Kotlin (Android)

Back-end: Node.js, Express, TypeScript

Cloud: AWS (EKS, EC2, RDS, S3), Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Docker

Database: PostgreSQL

Data: Apache Pinot, Apache Pulsar, Zookeeper

Front-end: React, TypeScript

Internal tools: Retool, Python

• 7+ years of development experience, with meaningful time in mobile (iOS or Android) and back-end/cloud work.
• Strong hands-on experience with Swift or Kotlin — you write production mobile code, not just oversee it.
• Solid back-end and DevOps chops: Node.js, TypeScript, AWS, CI/CD, containerization.
• Experience leading or mentoring developers — not just technically, but as a people-grower.
• High autonomy, high accountability. You identify problems before they're problems.
• You communicate clearly and write code that others can learn from.

• Experience with real-time event-driven systems (Pulsar, Pinot, or similar).

$180,000–$240,000 CAD · commensurate with demonstrated performance
