Duties

The United States Space Force (USSF) at Peterson SFB, Colorado Springs, CO is searching for a Branch Chief for Modifications to support Satellite Control Network (SCN), 31 STS (NH-1101-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent).

Description

This position serves as a Supervisory Modifications Branch Chief within the 31st Sustainment Squadron (31 STS). The 31 STS is a critical component of Mission Delta 31, responsible for the sustainment, maintenance, and modifications of the Satellite Control Network (SCN) to improve its operational capabilities. The SCN is the backbone of U.S. space operations, providing Telemetry, Tracking & Commanding (TT&C) for over 190 Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and NASA satellites. The Branch Chief will lead a team responsible for managing a team who executes complex modifications and upgrade projects on the SCN, a globally distributed network of 19 antennas that performs over 450 satellite contacts daily. This is a vital leadership role ensuring the continued reliability and resilience of national critical infrastructure in an increasingly congested and contested space domain.

Ideal Candidate

Proven experience in managing complex technical projects, preferably within the Department of War. Strong background in systems engineering, satellite communications, or network operations. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to lead a diverse, technically-focused team. Comprehensive understanding of acquisition, operations, and sustainment processes for complex weapon systems. Knowledge of the challenges facing the Satellite Control Network, including obsolescence, high utilization rates, and the need for sustainment and modifications is highly desirable.

Key Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the policies, practices, regulations, and laws concerning the acquisition management process and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the missions, roles, functions, organizational structures, and operation of the DOD and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence the systems acquisition process.
  • Skill to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff in critical aspects of development and production, support of systems, subsystems, or equipment and to coordinate various aspects of systems acquisition such as engineering, contracting, financial management, configuration, test, and manufacturing.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, motivate, appraise, and work with subordinate supervisors and non-supervisory employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, clearly, concisely, with technical accuracy and to use computers and a variety of software programs and databases, gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Safeguards classified or sensitive budget-related information and/or files.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed “Unscheduled Telework”.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications, whichever comes first.
  • Employee may be required to perform travel by military or commercial passenger aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
  • PCS / relocation funding is authorized.
  • This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): 20 days a year.
  • Employee must within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, “Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.
  • This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
