Lead / Senior Data Engineer

NOTE: This is a 100% remote role.

Work Hours: PST HOURS

(Rate dependent on leadership experience and scope of ownership)

  • Lead Data Engineer: $80-$90/hr- Depending on experience
  • Senior Data Engineer: $70-$80/hr-Depending on experience

Overview
Seeking a Lead Data Engineer (or strong Senior Data Engineer) to support a large-scale data platform modernization initiative. This role blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership, focusing on building and improving scalable data pipelines, enforcing engineering standards, and driving data platform consistency.

Must Haves

  • Strong hands-on experience with Databricks and Apache Spark
  • Advanced data pipeline development experience (design, build, optimization)
  • Proven experience in data engineering within production environments
  • Experience with data governance frameworks (e.g., Unity Catalog or similar)
  • Strong understanding of data quality, monitoring, and reliability best practices
  • Experience working with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Google Cloud, or similar)
  • Ability to review code, enforce standards, and guide other engineers
  • Strong stakeholder collaboration across engineering and platform teams

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight across data engineering efforts
  • Review and guide data pipeline development to ensure quality, scalability, and consistency
  • Support and unblock engineers during development and migration activities
  • Drive migration of data assets into modern data platforms (Databricks / governed environments)
  • Establish and enforce data governance standards (naming, ownership, structure)
  • Design and implement data quality, monitoring, and alerting frameworks
  • Enable integration of data platforms with downstream systems and analytics environments
  • Partner with platform and infrastructure teams to support data accessibility and performance
