Business Analyst

Location: Remote

Type: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) โ€“ with potential to extend

Clearance Requirement: BPSS Eligible


Amber Labs is seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join our growing team on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract, with strong potential for extension. This is a fully remote position based in the UK.


In this role, you will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to define business needs, shape requirements, and support delivery across UK Central Government and public sector initiatives. You will play a key role in leading the requirements lifecycle, ensuring clarity, alignment, and traceability from discovery through delivery. This position is ideal for a Business Analyst with strong analytical capability, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and proven experience within government environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end requirements gathering, including functional requirements, non-functional requirements (NFRs), and acceptance criteria
  • Conduct as-is and to-be business process mapping, identifying gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement
  • Manage and prioritise the Agile product backlog, collaborating with Product Owners and delivery teams
  • Work with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear, concise user stories
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews, and discovery sessions with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Use JIRA (or similar tools) to manage requirements, track progress, and support Agile ceremonies
  • Ensure alignment with government standards, governance frameworks, and assurance processes
  • Support risk identification, impact analysis, and change request assessment
  • Collaborate with delivery, architecture, QA, and user research teams to ensure requirements are clearly understood and implemented correctly
  • Produce documentation such as process flows, requirement catalogues, service specifications, and decision logs


Essential Skills & Experience

  • BPSS eligibility is essential
  • Strong experience as a Business Analyst on UK Central Government or wider public sector projects
  • Demonstrable experience leading structured requirements gathering phases
  • Strong capability in defining NFRs, user stories, and acceptance criteria
  • Hands-on experience with as-is / to-be business process mapping
  • Solid understanding of Agile delivery frameworks and backlog management
  • Experience using JIRA (or similar tools) to manage requirements and workflows
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams including Product, Development, Architecture, and QA
  • Strong analytical mindset and the ability to translate complex problems into clear, actionable solutions
