Job Description:

Our client is an enterprise fintech startup focused on the insurance industry. They are hiring Backend Software Engineers (roughly 4–12 years of experience) to join a growing team.

This is a high-impact role for a curious, highly autonomous engineer who wants to own the design and implementation of end-to-end workflows in a complex, high-stakes domain. You will play a foundational part in building the product from the ground up, tackling difficult backend and automation problems from day one—meaningful infrastructure at the intersection of AI, fintech, and insurance, with real ownership and impact.

What You’ll Do:

• Build end-to-end workflows for insurance agencies, with emphasis on automation and AI-driven solutions

• Integrate with fragmented, often low-tech systems and build reliable, scalable infrastructure
• Work directly with customers: gather feedback, iterate quickly, and translate technical ideas into clear, practical solutions
• Contribute to greenfield development, building on an existing browser automation layer
• Collaborate on system design and architecture to solve complex, real-world problems

What We Want:

• 4–12 years of backend engineering experience; startup experience strongly preferred
• Experience at early-stage companies (pre–Series D); founding engineer experience is a plus
• Background in complex or low-tech industries (insurance, fintech, healthcare) preferred

• Proficiency with modern AI coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Cursor, Claude) as part of daily workflow
• Strong curiosity and willingness to engage directly with customers
• Willing to relocate to San Francisco for 5 days in-office per week

Pluses:

• Browser automation or web scraping experience
• Tenure or impact at companies with a similar profile (e.g., Archipelago, Modern Treasury, Retool, Rippling, New Front Insurance—illustrative only; not exhaustive)
