Senior Backend Software Engineer (AI-First Startup)

We’re partnering with an awesome seed-stage, AI-native startup that’s building a next-gen platform, currently in use by hundreds of thousands of users worldwide.

As an early-stage engineer on a tight-knit, high-ownership team, you’ll own backend systems end-to-end, in a true product engineering role.

This is not a distributed-systems, event-driven, big-data, or heavy-infra role. It’s about thoughtful, user-facing backend engineering in an AI-native product where you own outcomes from discovery to production.

Here, you’ll shape core backend architecture and services that power AI-driven features across the platform.

The stack is modern and flexible: Golang (preferred) on GCP, with TypeScript/React on the frontend when cross-stack work is needed.

Senior Product Engineer Responsibilities

• Design, build, and continuously improve core backend infrastructure with a sharp focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and exceptional developer experience
• Proactively tackle technical debt and streamline critical system paths
• Create internal tools and services that power content generation, automation workflows, validation processes, and documentation
• Partner closely across the entire product lifecycle with frontend, product, and cross-functional teams (including support and growth)
• Engage directly with our user community to gather real-world feedback and translate it into meaningful product improvements
• Thrive in high-ambiguity environments. You’ll define problems from scratch, scope solutions under tight deadlines, and rapidly deliver polished V1s

You should apply if these apply:-

• You’ve been one of the very first or early engineers at a startup and have successfully taken products or major systems from zero to one
• You’ve owned an entire core product area end-to-end rather than just delivering isolated features
• You naturally surface issues around performance, user experience, cost, or reliability before anyone else flags them
• Strong product ownership mindset, you speak the language of user outcomes and business value, aren’t afraid to challenge scope, and actively reshape work for better results
• Highly comfortable operating in ambiguity; your stories include phrases like “I defined the problem,” “I drove the strategy,” or “I owned the roadmap”
• Recent hands-on experience inside small, early-stage teams (beyond just big-tech environments)
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI tools, you actively incorporate them into your daily workflow to boost productivity
• Rock-solid backend fundamentals: APIs, services, performance tuning, reliability engineering, and data modeling
• Low-ego collaborator who ships quickly and enjoys working as part of a tight-knit team
