What Will You Do
The Deployed Security Group leader will play a critical leadership role in developing and implementing cost-effective and compliant security programs to maintain a compliant and effective security environment and foster a culture of security awareness throughout the Laboratory. You will work closely with ALDDP Leadership, LANL organizations and peers throughout the NNSA Enterprise to benchmark policies and practices, implement "best business" security processes and practices, and ensure alignment with the Associate Laboratory Director for Defense Protection (ALDDPP) goals and strategies. Managing a deployed organization is a complex and multifaceted task. Your primary focus will be on leading a large, deployed organization with a diverse but integrated mission set through periods of significant change, ensuring that all operations adhere to safety, security, quality, and environmental standards.
Your key responsibilities will include helping organizations implement LANL's Integrated Safeguards and Security Management within line functions, responding to requests for information, and publishing articles addressing security policies and frequently asked questions. You will also assist organizations in developing Activity Security Plans and Security Implementation Plans, conducting new hire and initial security briefings, and acting as a point of contact between supported organizations and core security services. Additionally, you will provide security updates, lessons learned, and best practices to employees through various means, and visit managers to share trends/indicators, conduct causal analysis, and assist with implementing measures to strengthen performance. By fostering a strong security culture and facilitating secure work, you will play a vital role in protecting LANL's special nuclear material, classified and sensitive information, people, and property.

Additionally, experience in budget preparation, execution, and oversight is necessary. A key aspect of this leadership will be fostering career growth, providing mentorship, and actively developing the skills and capabilities of your team members.
Collaboration
Candidates must possess strong communication skills, be able to collaborate effectively with team members across all organizational levels and demonstrate customer focus and business acumen. They should also be able to professionally resolve conflicts and prioritize multiple stakeholders. Effective collaboration with managers throughout the lab is crucial to drive team cohesion, strategic alignment, and successful project execution, making it essential to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
Problem Solving
This position requires demonstrated knowledge and understanding of all topical areas of Safeguards and Security. Problem-solving skills are essential for analyzing complex data and trends to identify security-related issues and formulate actionable recommendations for improvement. The ability to prioritize, improve, and manage complex processes and tasks across organizational boundaries is also a key requirement.
Communication
Effective written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by internal and external interactions, are a must. Ability to clearly articulate complex security matters to diverse audiences. The role requires proven capability to present findings and recommendations to senior management in a clear and professional manner. Demonstrated commitment to laboratory goals to ensure a healthy, safe, and secure working environment is also essential.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8 years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
