Join Amazon's Robotics Delivery & Packaging Innovations (RDPI) Technology Deployment team within Amazon Robotics (AR) organization to deploy industrial robotics across North America's fulfillment network. In RDPI, we have the unique role and privilege of deploying leading edge industrial robotics and customer fulfillment technologies across the North America Stores operations. We raise the bar on the speed, quality and cost of deploying industrial technologies at scale across North America, functioning as the field team who plan, execute and launch the technologies that our internal design and product strategy partners in RDPI develop.
As a Systems Engineer in RDPI, you will be overseeing large scale project planning, installation, and launch of industrial automation technologies across Amazons growing Stores network. This field engineering position demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including mechanical and electrical systems, network configurations, and software coordination. The ideal candidate has experience with complex electro-mechanical and network systems, large scale installations, and system troubleshooting. You will work with cross-functional partners across the Amazon Fulfillment Technology & Robotics engineering, safety, product strategy, software, supply chain, third-party installers, contracted deployment engineers, construction teams, and internal operations customer teams, functioning as the lead on-site project manager to provide technical oversight on installation Amazon-designed automation equipment. This Systems Engineer position is an individual contributor role, influencing and leading stakeholders from planning through go-live of each project. Project durations vary from a few days to several months each.
This is a travel-based role and you will be expected to travel to meet the requirements of your projects across North America, upwards of 75% or more.
- Relocation to Amazon Corporate offices in Seattle, Boston, Nashville or Austin will be required for the role.
- You will support and guide installation of robotics, packaging and sortation technologies at Amazon fulfillment centers
- You will develop detailed knowledge of the operation of robotic systems and guide installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of these systems both on site and remotely
- You will manage technical ambiguity around integration of work cells in fulfillment centers
- You will collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, and internal customers including site maintenance and operations teams
- You will travel to project sites and collaborate both virtually and in person to ensure all business stakeholders are aligned on program status
- You will manage day to day project scheduling and budget management
- You will work on continuous improvement activities to improve the projects in your space
- You will generate and implement continuous improvement ideas around work-scopes
- You will lead teams of other engineers on projects
- You will travel to both live warehouses and new construction sites, the scopes may vary significantly in length and include heavy travel
- You will travel to project sites across North America, upwards of 75% or more

RDPI Tech Deployment are missioned with enabling the delivery of large scale automation technologies designed and manufactured by Amazon. The team is multi-disciplinary, and consists of Field Deployment Engineers, Controls Engineering, Design for Deployment, Product Single Threaded Leaders, and a Program Management Office team, who collaborate on enabling the delivery of new technologies and packaging solutions that delight our customers, and improve the safety, quality and costs within the Amazon fulfillment processes. The team is geographically located across four North America hub locations. The work we deliver directly impact high priority goals set each year to our most senior leadership at Amazon.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) field
- 1+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
- Experience in data analysis, with the ability to interpret and draw insights from data to inform decision-making processes
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems, or experience in managing and troublshooting network and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
- Experience prioritizing and handling multiple assignments at any given time while maintaining commitment to deadlines, or experience in a fast-paced, high-tech company
- Experience in retail, warehouse, or manufacturing is preferred
- Knowledge of standard software including Excel, Access, Oracle, Essbase, SQL and VBA skills
- 1+ year’s experience with technical drawings and/or reading CAD models (mechanical and electrical)

- 1+ years of engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environment experience
- 2+ years of electrical theory, robotics, controls components, and automated equipment experience
- Experience in analyzing data to drive decisions
- Experience working with networking fundamentals or Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, SSL, DNS, HTTP/S, or equivalent
- Can work proactively and independently, meet deadlines, and deliver on projects and tasks
- Certified in OSHA, ANSI, or other Automation Safety Certifications. Familiarity with LEAN or Six Sigma, certifications are a plus

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
