What You Will Do
This Security Specialist is responsible for conducting structured technical security analyses to protect national security assets, personnel, the public, and the environment from vulnerabilities that could lead to significant disruptions or damage if exploited. Analysts use risk assessment frameworks, vulnerability analysis methodologies, and mitigation strategies to ensure security, safety, and compliance. Analysts develop solutions to complex security problems by conducting in-depth analyses, including threat characterization, target determination, facility/site characterization, protection strategy analysis, pathway analysis, scenario development, and system effectiveness calculations.
Security Specialist 1 ($66,100 - $103,600)
As a Entry-Level Security Specialist, you will contribute to the success of the Planning and Analysis Group by conducting analyses and assisting with developing and maintaining key Safeguards and Security (S&S) analytical programs and deliverables associated with the Site Security Plan to include Vulnerability Assessment Reports, Performance Assurance
Plans, Security Risk Assessments, and S&S equivalencies and exemptions.
Security Specialist 2 ($80,400 - $127,900)
As a Mid-Level Security Specialist you will independently perform risk assessments and vulnerability analyses on national security assets, critical infrastructure, and safety-sensitive operations. This role is responsible for identifying, categorizing, and prioritizing security threats and developing structured mitigation plans. Additionally, this position works on complex problem-solving efforts involving pathway analysis, system effectiveness modeling, and strategic security planning.

- Conduct structured security risk assessments on various LANL assets, systems, facilities, and operations.
- Participate in site inspections to document security vulnerabilities.
- Identify risks related to nuclear facilities, hazardous material storage, and other LANL facilities.
- Perform detailed target determination to assess the attractiveness and vulnerability of critical assets.
- Offers recommendations for security solutions and implements corrective action under the direction of senior
- security specialists.
Education/Experience for higher level position: Position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 2 years of related experience in security risk analysis, security vulnerability analysis, safety analysis and regulatory compliance; or an equivalent combination of related education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Beginning experience leading multiple analytical projects annually with minimal oversight.
- Understanding in both qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques.
- Active DOE Clearance.

Work Environment
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
