Senior Java Backend Engineer

Contract: 12 months (subject to extension).

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Your Profile & DNA:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable microservices in a cloud-native environment.

This is an end-to-end engineering role where you will not only develop high-quality applications but also take ownership of deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced, enterprise setting.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend services using Java (Java 8+) and Spring Boot
• Build and maintain microservices-based architectures and APIs (REST / SOAP)
• Develop, manage, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Azure DevOps

• Deploy and manage applications on Microsoft Azure
• Work with containerization tools like Docker
• Manage builds and dependencies using Maven
• Collaborate using Git (code reviews, branching strategies)
• Ensure end-to-end ownership: development, deployment, monitoring, and post-production support
• Troubleshoot issues and perform root-cause analysis
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment

Qualification & Experience

• A Bachelor's or Master's Degree or equivalent.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (8 or higher) and Spring Boot
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture
• Experience with REST and SOAP web services

• Proven experience with Azure (deployments, repositories, code reviews)
• Strong CI/CD pipeline experience
• Familiarity with Git, Jenkins, Maven, and development IDEs (Eclipse / IntelliJ)

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Customer-facing experience
• Excellent written and spoken English
