The Cloud Network Engineer will assist with the planning, building and operation of Cloud-based infrastructure. They will bridge gaps between on-premises networks and Cloud-based networks, extending the Cloud-networking into the Data Centre infrastructure. The candidate will be required to develop extensive automation to assist other operational teams.

Candidates must live in the Ottawa area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify.

Candidates must be willing to be onsite in office four (4) days per week

Main Responsibilities

  • Support network requirements for all Cloud operations across Telesat including connectivity and integration to various Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) vendors. These integrations may include: Gitlab, Jama, Jira, Confluence, Workday, Salesforce.
  • Regularly evaluate cloud applications, designs, and best practices.
  • Recommending, planning, implementing, and maintaining Azure networking solutions including hybrid networking, connectivity, routing, security and private access to Azure services.
  • Deploy networking solutions using the Azure Portal and other methods including PowerShell, Terraform, Azure CLI and Azure ARM templates.
  • Collaborate with solutions architects, application developers, cloud administrators, cybersecurity and DevOps engineers to deliver Azure solutions.
  • Monitor network performance, availability and security, and audit existing network designs.
  • Manage and apply security best practices to the cloud environment.
  • Deploy and maintain Cloud, WAN, LAN, Wireless, Voice and Video solutions and networks including servers, routers, switches, gateways and related hardware.
  • Communicate and coordinate network maintenance, operational status, and downtime to users and Management as per established change management process and procedures.
  • Development of metrics and monitoring to assist with SRE (Support) and Operations functions.

Education & Experience Required

  • Must have extensive network experience in Azure administration and experience in hybrid connections, and network security.
  • Experience in Kubernetes network environments is required.
  • At least 5 years' experience in the implementation and operation of enterprise networking and data Centre environments including switches, load balancers and firewalls.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience with the deployment, management and automation of Cloud-based networking.
  • Bachelor's degree in technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
  • In addition to extensive Azure experience, additional experience troubleshooting other Cloud network environments such as AWS, and GCP would be considered an asset.

Specialized Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Experience with building and running large scale, high-available and fault-tolerant network infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding and hands on experience in the administration of Linux.
  • Experience leveraging scripts to build infrastructure (i.e. Bash, Python, Terraform).
  • Detailed knowledge of network appliances (both hardware and virtual) including Cisco, Fortinet and/or Palo Alto.
  • Familiarity with SRE concepts considered an asset.

Decision Making & Supervision

  • In this role, the incumbent will have some influence on the use and standardization within the Corporate and Cloud environments.
  • The incumbent will rely on their experience to make decisions on installation, customization and tuning of environments and services.
  • This role has no direct reports, but will work and interact with multi-disciplinary engineering and IT teams.

Working Conditions

  • No other business travel is anticipated.
  • There will be a requirement for occasional on-call and after hours work as required due to Operations.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
  • Candidate must be able to travel to our offices in Ottawa or Gatineau
