About The Role

As a Product Designer at Picogrid, you will help shape how operators interact with Picogrid’s software suite in mission-critical environments. Working closely with the Design Lead, software, and product, you will be a strategic partner, driving UX/UI vision and systems design across complex, data-rich applications. You will also contribute to visual design across marketing, graphics, and product surfaces.

This role is well-suited for a designer who enjoys working across multiple design surfaces in technically complex environments, collaborating closely with engineers, and maintaining high standards for clarity, usability, and visual quality.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end UX/UI design for system-level product initiatives, from workflow definition through high-fidelity components and systems.
  • Reinforce and extend Picogrid’s visual identity through thoughtful application of typography, motion, color, and interaction.
  • Champion the user experience and help set and maintain experience quality standards across Picogrid’s software products.
  • Translate technical requirements and user mental models into intuitive, efficient product experiences.
  • Define and evolve Picogrid’s design system in collaboration with the design lead and software team, ensuring components are both visually consistent and technically scalable.
  • Conduct implementation reviews and collaborate closely with engineering on high-quality execution.
  • Reinforce and extend Picogrid’s visual identity through thoughtful application of typography, motion, color, and interaction details
  • Contribute visual design support across product, graphics, and marketing initiatives as needed, ensuring Picogrid’s brand standards remain consistent across all surfaces.
  • High-Level Deliverables:
    • Strategic collaboration with design lead and software engineers
    • Production-ready UI/UI specs for internal tools
    • Standards and technical documentation
    • Application and refinement of brand expression
    • Improve clarity and usability across complex, data-rich product interfaces.
    • Develop and Maintain of design systems
    • Visual design and brand applications across hardware and marketing
Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional visual/product design experience delivering complex software applications.
  • Strong UX systems thinking and ability to simplify technically complex workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping data-rich or multi-surface interfaces.*
  • Strong visual craft and ability to produce polished UI and graphics that meet production standards.
  • High proficiency in Figma, Adobe Suite, and modern UI design tools.
  • Experience collaborating closely with engineering teams
  • Familiarity with structured design processes and documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing for defense, aerospace, robotics, or other technically complex domains.
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining a design system.
  • Familiarity with hardware-integrated or edge-connected software platforms.
  • Advanced degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
  • Experience with Industrial Design, hardware-integrated systems, or physical product environments.
  • Experience applying brand systems within complex product environments, including motion, visual hierarchy, and interaction detail.
  • Foundations in graphic/experience design beyond software, ex: marketing graphics, presentations, documentation, or brand applications.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $120,000- $140,000 per year. Base salary is just one part of your total compensation package at Picogrid.

  • 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Compensation Range: $120K - $140K
