About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Security Engineer specializing in Application Security to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in identifying and mitigating security vulnerabilities within our software applications. Your expertise will be vital in building security tools, conducting code reviews, performing penetration testing, and leading security assessments. You will collaborate closely with development teams to embed secure coding practices throughout the software development lifecycle, ensuring that security considerations are integrated from inception to deployment. Your guidance will foster a security-aware culture within the organization, helping to prevent security risks before they materialize. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in application security, threat modeling, and incident response, with the ability to communicate complex security issues effectively to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
This position is preferred to be based in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City, but remote work options are available. We operate on a hybrid work model requiring three days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees. As part of our team, you will play a critical role in safeguarding OpenAI’s technology, people, and products against emerging security threats.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field
- Extensive experience in information security, cybersecurity, or application security roles
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, or equivalent
- Hands-on experience with security tools like Burp Suite, OWASP ZAP, or similar
- Strong understanding of secure coding practices and application security frameworks
- Experience with threat modeling, risk assessments, and vulnerability management
- Knowledge of security protocols, encryption methods, and incident response procedures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex security concepts clearly
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence security best practices

- Conduct regular security assessments, including code reviews and penetration testing, to identify vulnerabilities in applications
