About The Role
The Principal AI/ML Engineer - Onboard Embodied AI is a critical leadership role within GM's autonomous vehicle division. Located in Mountain View, California, with a hybrid working model, this position involves spearheading the development of sophisticated machine learning solutions that enable fully autonomous driving capabilities. As a senior technical contributor and leader, you will architect, develop, and deploy real-time onboard ML models that process sensor data to produce safe and reliable driving behaviors. Your expertise will directly influence the performance and safety of GM's autonomous vehicles, ensuring they can navigate complex and dynamic environments effectively. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor engineers, and shape the technical roadmap for onboard AI systems, driving innovation and excellence in autonomous driving technology.
Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience with modern machine learning techniques.
- Extensive experience in developing and deploying advanced ML systems, especially in real-time onboard applications.
- Proven track record as a technical leader and expert in deep learning models, sensor data processing, and safety-critical systems.
- Deep expertise in computer vision, neural network architectures, representation learning, and model optimization under uncertainty.
- Strong proficiency in Python and C++, with hands-on experience using ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to influence technical strategies across teams.
- Bonus: Experience in autonomous vehicles or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
