Job Description

  • A trusted advisory role in a values-led regional health service
  • For HR professionals who care about how people experience work
  • A competitive salary aligned to the Health and Allied Services Managers and Administrative Workers Enterprise Agreement (Victorian Public Sector)

Healthcare with Heart, Impact and Integrity

Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is a leading Victorian Health Service providing care to more than 90,000 people across North East Victoria. Deeply connected to the community it serves, NHW combines modern healthcare delivery with a genuine commitment to kindness, respect and integrity, for patients, families and staff alike.

Significant recent investment has strengthened NHW’s services and infrastructure, supporting a growing and diverse workforce operating in a complex, 24/7 healthcare environment. While the work is demanding, the culture is grounded, human and values led. People are known, supported and trusted to do their work well.

Guided by values of courage, excellence, fairness, integrity, kindness and respect, NHW is an organisation where professionalism and compassion coexist, and where People & Culture plays a meaningful role in shaping how work is experienced every day.

HR at the Heart of a Complex Health Service

This is not a back-office HR role. It is embedded, visible and relational.

NHW is seeking a full-time People & Culture Advisor to support leaders and employees across a large and complex public health environment where people's decisions genuinely matter.

Reporting to the HR Manager, you will be a trusted point of contact for leaders navigating the realities of workforce management in healthcare. From performance concerns and sensitive conversations, to interpretation of enterprise agreements and supporting change, your role is to bring clarity, fairness and calm judgement when situations are not always straightforward.

Rather than simply applying process, you will help leaders think clearly, act consistently and lead with confidence, even when the stakes are high.

In this role, you will be trusted to:

  • Be a steady and credible presence for leaders dealing with complex people matters
  • Balance compliance and compassion in a highly regulated, unionised environment
  • Support difficult conversations with professionalism, empathy and sound judgement
  • Apply industrial instruments and legislation practically, not rigidly
  • Contribute to a team that values consistency, trust and teamwork

This is a role for someone who understands that good HR work often happens quietly, through relationships, judgement and the way advice is delivered.

Confident Advice, Grounded in Care and Integrity

This role will suit someone comfortable working close to the business and confident operating in complexity.

You will bring a qualification in HR and experience in a generalist or advisory HR role, ideally within a fast-paced environment. You are comfortable interpreting industrial instruments, providing advice leaders can act on, and staying steady when emotion, pressure or ambiguity are present.

Beyond experience, what matters most is how you show up.

You are known for being:

  • Calm, fair and thoughtful in your approach
  • Comfortable having difficult conversations without escalating unnecessarily
  • Clear and practical, without losing empathy
  • Grounded in values, with sound professional judgement
  • Resilient and self-aware in emotionally demanding situations

You value relationships, take pride in doing things properly, and understand that in healthcare, people's decisions have real consequences for teams, patients and communities.

This is not a role for transactional HR. It is for someone who cares about trust, consistency and the long-term health of an organisation and its people.

Looking After the People Who Look After Others

At NHW, caring for the workforce is not a slogan. It is a shared responsibility.

You will be supported by a committed team and a broader organisation that understands the realities of public health work.

In return for your contribution, you will have access to:

  • Remuneration is aligned with the Victorian public health sector
  • Salary packaging options to increase your take-home pay
  • Access to wellbeing initiatives and an Employee Assistance Program
  • Ongoing learning and professional development opportunities
  • A values-led culture where integrity and respect are genuinely lived
  • The lifestyle benefits of working in Wangaratta offering strong community connection and access to beautiful natural surroundings
  • Relocation support may be available for the right candidate.

Throw your hat in the ring?

If you are an HR professional who values fairness, integrity and practical impact, and you are looking for a role where your judgement, not just your technical knowledge, will be trusted, we encourage you to apply.
