About the Role
A fast-growing AI company building infrastructure for automating complex financial and tax document workflows is hiring Backend Engineers / Member of Technical Staff to build the core systems powering its machine learning platform.
The company was recently acquired by a global enterprise technology leader, giving the team significant resources and long-term stability while maintaining the speed and ownership of an early-stage startup.
Engineers in this role will build the core infrastructure for ML inference, data extraction pipelines, and AI-powered automation systems used by major accounting firms and financial institutions.
This is a high-impact backend role where engineers own systems end-to-end and work directly with customers to shape product capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Build core backend systems that deploy and scale machine learning inference pipelines
- Design and implement services that extract structured data from complex tax documents
- Drive architecture decisions for core platform services and internal tooling
- Integrate ML models, monitoring systems, and application layers into production systems
- Develop backend services and database layers supporting product workflows
- Build integrations with external vendor APIs and financial data sources
- Collaborate on CI/CD systems and infrastructure to accelerate product development
- Work directly with customers (accountants and financial teams) to understand product needs

Who You Are
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Experience building production systems in high-bar engineering environments
- Experience working with large datasets and data processing pipelines
- Comfortable making architecture decisions and owning systems end-to-end
- Strong product mindset and ability to collaborate directly with users
- Demonstrated growth through promotions or increasing ownership in previous roles
- Based in or willing to relocate to San Francisco (5 days in-office)
