About the Opportunity
A fast-growing, early-stage software company in the enterprise data and analytics space is seeking a Director of Marketing to build and lead its marketing function from the ground up. This is a high-autonomy, high-ownership role for a seasoned marketing leader who thrives in startup environments and brings deep domain expertise in business intelligence, data management, and analytics ecosystems.
Role OverviewThe Director of Marketing will own marketing strategy, positioning, messaging, and execution across product marketing, partner marketing, and go-to-market programs. You'll manage a small internal team while overseeing outsourced marketing resources, and you'll be personally hands-on in creating technically credible content — especially in the early stages of the function.
Core ResponsibilitiesMarketing Strategy & Leadership
- Define overall marketing strategy, positioning, and messaging framework
- Translate company and product objectives into clear, actionable marketing plans
- Establish priorities across product marketing, partner-led GTM motions, and campaigns
Team & Functional Management
- Build and manage the marketing organization, including a Partner Marketing Manager and Marketing & Operations Lead
- Set clear role boundaries, priorities, and performance expectations
- Delegate execution while retaining full accountability for results
Partner Marketing
- Own partner marketing strategy, operating model, and segmentation
- Define partner value propositions and standard partner motions
- Serve as the escalation point for strategic partner marketing decisions

Product & Technical Marketing
- Ensure technical differentiation is clearly and consistently communicated to target audiences
- Oversee product messaging, solution narratives, and sales enablement assets
- Align marketing timing and messaging with product roadmap
Hands-On Content Creation
- Personally author and edit core marketing content: product narratives, technical blogs, solution briefs, website copy, and thought leadership
- Translate complex technical concepts into credible messaging for both technical and executive audiences
- Maintain a high bar for accuracy, depth, and technical integrity across all content
Marketing Systems & Automation
- Own planning, configuration, and implementation of marketing automation and CRM tooling
- Design and maintain automated workflows supporting campaigns, pipeline tracking, and reporting
Outsourced Marketing Management
- Select, onboard, and manage agencies, contractors, and specialized vendors
- Define scopes of work, success criteria, and performance standards for all external partners

Measurement & Optimization
- Define success metrics across marketing functions including pipeline contribution and partner influence
- Continuously refine strategy based on performance data and market feedback
- 10+ years of B2B marketing experience, including senior leadership roles
- Proven experience in startup or early-stage growth environments with direct ownership of growth outcomes
- Deep domain expertise in enterprise data, analytics, and BI platforms — experience with one or more of the following strongly preferred: Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, Google Looker, MicroStrategy, SAP BusinessObjects, IBM Cognos
- Background at a BI or analytics-focused software company (prior experience welcome; current role not required)
- Experience with semantic layer technologies (e.g., AtScale, Cube, or similar) highly desired
- Proven ability to personally create and refine high-quality technical marketing content
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing marketing automation and CRM systems (HubSpot, Salesforce, Marketo, or similar)
- Highly self-motivated and comfortable operating with high autonomy in a fully remote environment
- A scalable marketing operating model supporting both direct and partner-led growth
- Technically credible, differentiated market positioning authored and shaped by you
- A modern, automated marketing foundation that supports scale without unnecessary headcount growth
- Marketing outcomes measurably tied to pipeline contribution and partner influence
