This is not another backend role maintaining internal tools.

We are partnered with a fast-growing healthtech company building an AI-powered care orchestration platform used in live clinical environments. The systems you build will sit directly in the workflow of healthcare professionals and influence real patient outcomes.

They are hiring a Senior or Staff Backend Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of core backend services powering event-driven, AI-enabled healthcare workflows.

Healthcare teams operate in fragmented systems with duplicated data entry, broken workflows, and constant friction.

This platform connects patient data, clinical protocols, and care coordination into a unified system. An AI-driven orchestration layer automates routine tasks, surfaces critical insights, and supports clinicians at the exact moment decisions need to be made.

This is production software deployed into real care settings, refined with feedback from leading health systems.

What you will be doing

• Design and build scalable, event-driven backend services using Python, FastAPI, Kafka, and GraphQL
• Own key parts of a modern microservice architecture running in production
• Develop and optimise PostgreSQL data models in high-throughput environments
• Translate complex clinical workflows into robust, reliable backend systems
• Partner with DevOps on deployment, observability, and reliability improvements
• Drive engineering standards through code reviews, strong testing discipline, and mentorship
• Take full ownership, from architecture and implementation to supporting systems in production

This is hands-on, high-responsibility engineering in a domain where reliability truly matters.

Tech Stack

• Python 3.12 with async patterns and strong typing
• FastAPI and Strawberry GraphQL
• PostgreSQL with asyncpg and SQLAlchemy
• Apache Kafka and event-driven architecture
• Docker, Kubernetes, AWS
• React and TypeScript frontend

What we are looking for

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience in production environments
• Deep Python expertise, including async programming and strong testing practices
• Strong PostgreSQL database design and optimisation experience
• Experience contributing to or designing microservice architectures
• Familiarity with GraphQL APIs
• Experience with event-driven systems and message queues
• Comfort working in cloud-native environments

Bonus points for experience with Kafka, Strawberry GraphQL, Apollo Federation, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, or regulated healthcare environments such as HIPAA, HL7, or FHIR.
