Job Title: Senior Splunk & Linux Systems Engineer
Remote (U.S. – Lower 48) | EST Hours | U.S. Citizenship Required
Are you a hands-on engineer with deep Splunk and Linux expertise? We’re looking for a Senior Splunk & Linux Systems Engineer to support a secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure. This is a six-month remote contract with strong potential for extension. You’ll be part of a team ensuring mission-critical systems are monitored, automated, and running efficiently in a highly regulated environment.
What You’ll Do
As our senior engineer, you’ll be the go-to expert for Splunk and Linux systems. Your responsibilities include:
Splunk Administration
- Maintain and monitor Splunk Enterprise in a Linux cluster environment
- Manage indexes, data sources, and log pipelines
- Onboard new servers and log sources (Linux & Windows)
- Develop advanced dashboards and train teams on usage
- Upgrade Splunk Enterprise and Universal Forwarders
- Identify and implement architecture improvements
Linux Systems Administration
- Manage Linux servers supporting Splunk clusters
- Oversee file systems, permissions, and configurations
- Use automation tools like Ansible or SaltStack
- Version control with Git or Bitbucket
- Create Bash scripts to improve operational efficiency

Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Troubleshoot log ingestion, indexing, and search performance issues
- Partner with other system admins to deploy forwarders and validate log flow
- Mentor junior engineers and share best practices
- Contribute to initiatives that optimize infrastructure and monitoring
Security & Compliance
- Operate in a secure, compliance-driven environment (CUI)
- Follow strict workstation and access control standards
- Be eligible to work in secure virtual desktop environments
What We’re Looking For
Required Experience
- 5+ years Splunk Enterprise administration in production
- 5+ years Linux systems administration
- 5+ years Bash scripting and automation
- Strong knowledge of distributed Splunk architecture
- Experience with enterprise log pipelines and troubleshooting
Preferred Experience
- Working in VDI-based environments
- Supporting research, higher education, or regulated enterprise systems
- Improving Splunk architecture for scalability and performance
