What will the Data Architect do?
The Data Architect will serve as a strategic and technical bridge between Coterie’s Data and Analytics team (DnA) and Engineering teams, ensuring alignment in how data is modeled, governed, and consumed across the organization. This role will drive the definition and enforcement of scalable data architecture standards, oversee OLTP domain modeling, and establish stable, business-aligned data contracts to support both internal analytics and external data exchange. As a cross-functional collaborator and thought leader, the Data Architect plays a critical role in enabling secure, reliable, and performant data systems that meet the needs of DnA, Engineering, Growth, and Insurance teams.
- Serve as the architectural bridge between DnA and Engineering departments, ensuring alignment between the needs and standards for DnA, Engineering, Growth and Insurance.
- Collaborate closely with data engineers, data analysts, data scientists and software engineers to ensure consistent implementation of architectural decisions.
- Establish and enforce data architecture standards, best practices and design patterns across the organization.
- Ensure data models meet requirements for governance, security, privacy, reliability and performance.
- Support data governance initiatives, including data quality, lineage, metadata management and regulatory compliance.
- Own OLTP domain modeling and schema design, ensuring source systems represent business entities, workflows and constraints correctly before data lands downstream.
- Create and maintain a domain map and canonical model, clarifying boundaries between services/domains and preventing duplicated or conflicting representations of the same concepts.
- Create and maintain stable, business-aligned data contracts that power reliable ingestion into a lakehouse.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering or a related quantitative field.
- 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, software development or related roles.
- Demonstrated experience working in regulated industries such as insurance (preferred), banking or financial services.
- Strong understanding of data modeling and data warehousing concepts.
- Proficiency in multiple scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL).
- Ability to collaborate effectively across DnA and Engineering teams, balancing analytical requirements with engineering constraints.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience designing and supporting cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure or GCP).
- Extensive experience with:
- Event modeling (batch and streaming)
- Databricks
- Relational and document-based data structure
