The Human Resources Data Scientist at Idaho National Laboratory serves as a strategic analytics partner to HR leadership, translating complex workforce data into clear, compelling insights that inform executive decision-making. This role blends advanced data science capabilities with strong business acumen, executive-level communication, and a customer-service mindset focused on HR stakeholders.
The successful candidate operates comfortably at a very high technical level while remaining grounded in practical application: designing sophisticated analytics solutions and applying them to real-world HR questions that matter to senior leadership. This role requires autonomy, intellectual confidence, and the ability to manage up while engaging with highly knowledgeable stakeholders.
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain advanced analytics solutions to support HR strategy, workforce planning, and organizational effectiveness.
- Perform complex data analysis using structured and unstructured data sources to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Independently extract, transform, and integrate data from multiple systems without reliance on IT development resources.
- Build executive-ready dashboards and visualizations (primarily in Power BI) that emphasize clarity, accuracy, and effective visual storytelling.
- Translate analytical findings into actionable insights tailored to audiences at all levels of the organization.
- Partner closely with HR professionals as primary customers, ensuring analytics solutions align with real-world business needs.
- Present findings to senior leadership with confidence and professionalism, including responding to detailed technical and strategic questions.
- Leverage AI-enabled tools to improve analytics workflows, efficiency, and insight generation.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior analysts and other staff, fostering analytics capability across the organization.
- Support ad hoc analyses and special projects as assigned.
- This position has no direct reports; however, mentoring and technical leadership responsibilities are expected.
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex information clearly are critical to success in this role.
- Level 4: Bachelor's degree in Data Science or a closely related field and a minimum of 9 years of experience, OR a Master's degree and a minimum of 6 years of experience required.
- Level 5: Bachelor's degree in Data Science or a closely related field and a minimum of 14 years of experience OR a Master's degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience required.

- Industry certifications in data science, analytics, or related fields.
- Experience working in government, national laboratories, or similarly highly regulated environments.
- Demonstrated experience developing executive-level dashboards and analytics tools used to support decision-making.
- Experience applying AI-enabled tools in analytics workflows.

The pay range for this position is:
Level 4: $95,256 - $195,288
Level 5: $114,360 - $234,336
At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
Physical Requirements
