We are partnering with a nationally critical organisation at the heart of the smart infrastructure ecosystem. Operating within a highly regulated, security-conscious environment, this organisation underpins one of the largest digital transformation programmes in the energy sector.

As part of continued investment in cloud-first strategy and secure digital platforms, they are seeking an experienced Azure Platform Engineer with strong Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) expertise to play a key role in evolving and stabilising a complex Azure estate.

The Opportunity

This is not a greenfield build. The AVD platform is already in-flight and forms a critical component of a broader Digital Service Platform. The successful candidate will need to step into a live environment, quickly assess the current state, and drive improvements across architecture, automation, governance and operational maturity.

You will work within a CAF-aligned Azure Landing Zone, supporting and enhancing a secure, scalable virtual desktop ecosystem built with infrastructure-as-code principles at its core.

This role would suit someone who enjoys navigating complexity, improving standards, and bringing structure and automation to an evolving cloud platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Own and mature the Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) platform within an enterprise-scale Azure environment
• Operate and enhance a CAF-aligned Azure Landing Zone
• Design, deploy and manage infrastructure using Terraform / Terragrunt
• Drive CI/CD automation using GitHub Actions
• Improve platform reliability, resilience, cost optimisation and governance
• Collaborate with security, architecture and engineering teams to ensure compliance and best practice
• Provide hands-on engineering support in a live, regulated environment

Experience Required

• Strong hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) in enterprise environments
• Deep understanding of Azure Landing Zones and Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF)
• Proven experience with Terraform and Terragrunt
• CI/CD pipeline experience, ideally with GitHub Actions
• Experience operating within regulated or security-conscious environments
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to navigate complex in-flight programmes

Desirable

• Experience in critical national infrastructure, utilities, energy or public sector environments
• Knowledge of Azure networking, identity (Entra ID), and security controls
• Familiarity with FinOps principles and platform cost optimisation
