Job Description
Job Description
Staff Technical Program Manager, AI
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard – from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
We are seeking a Staff Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the AI Training program for our Autonomous Driving platform. This role will serve as a strategic and executional leader, driving alignment across large cross-functional teams including Operations, Data science, Machine learning and AI, and distributed AI training infrastructure to accelerate the delivery of next-generation autonomy software.
As a Staff TPM, you will be at the intersection of AI research, Data science, infrastructure, and program strategy – shaping and helping deliver training data, tools and associated strategies that will enable AI driving models development at scale.
You will partner closely with multiple organizations in engineering, ML, AI, infrastructure, Operations and product leaders to facilitate the ingestion, processing and deployment of very large datasets for distributed model training and closely collaborate in the end-to-end AI lifecycle management.
What You’ll Do
- Program Leadership: Drive the end-to-end strategy, planning, and execution of a large cross-functional program, aligning all the different stakeholders that participate in the life cycle of model training.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with engineering, validation, and product teams to help in defining requirements, prioritize features, and deliver solutions supporting AI development cycle performance.
- Technical Roadmapping: Translate complex technical requirements into clear, actionable program plans with measurable outcomes and timelines across multiple teams.
- Risk & Change Management: Identify technical and program risks early, lead mitigation strategies, and ensure smooth change management processes.
- Scalability & Performance: Ensure processes and pipelines are designed for long-term scalability, performance, and operational excellence.
- Metrics & Visibility: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for training efficiency, model quality, and delivery velocity; provide regular updates to senior leadership.
- 15+ years of technical program management experience. 5+ years working on data, AI/ML, robotics and/or autonomous systems are preferred.
- BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Hardware and SW backgrounds both in program manager and engineering.
- Proven track record of managing large complex cross-functional programs involving hardware, embedded software, and data pipelines with ambiguous goals.
- Strong systems thinking with ability to connect high-level architecture plans to detailed execution tasks.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Deep familiarity with Agile program delivery, tasks management tools (e.g. JIRA), reporting tools, and technical development tools.
- Experience supporting large-scale AI/ML training systems, including data ingestion, labeling workflows, feature pipelines, and distributed training infrastructure (e.g., GPU/accelerator-based systems, cloud or hybrid environments).
- Background working closely with Data Science, Machine Learning, or AI research teams, translating experimental or research-driven work into scalable, production-ready programs.
- Familiarity with autonomy, robotics, or safety-critical systems, including an understanding of model validation, simulation, and continuous improvement loops across the AI lifecycle.
- Experience operating at Staff or senior-leadership scope, influencing technical strategy across multiple organizations and driving execution through ambiguity, competing priorities, and fast-evolving technical constraints.
- The salary range for this role is $134,700 - $245,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
- Benefits: GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs. Benefit options include medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, employee assistance program, GM vehicle discounts and more.
This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
This role is based remotely, but if the selected candidate lives within a specific mile radius of a GM hub, they will be expected to report to the location three times a week {or other frequency dictated by your manager}.
