About Your Role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Piping Engineer to join our project team delivering the world-class Oyu Tolgoi underground mine in Mongolia. This is a key role within the UG Project Management team with the responsibility for the safe and timely delivery of the cave Production Infrastructure.

The Senior Mechanical Piping Engineer is accountable for providing technical expertise to the Underground engineering project team through the development of engineering detailed design.

Working within the OT Underground Project Management team, (mining and construction disciplines) you will

  • Ensure compliance to the OT HSE and Quality Management Plans
  • Show outstanding leadership and commitment to HSE and Quality
  • Liaise with the project controls personnel to provide accurate updates of progress
  • Review and manage performance of external engineering providers
  • Provide continuous guidance to engineering team members.
  • Develop, oversee, review, and deliver mechanical and piping engineering designs, 3D models, drawings, data sheets, project related specifications and other design documentation as required and in accordance with Mongolian, ISO and OT Site Standards
  • Produce engineering Basis of Design, engineering mechanical calculations, pipinganalysis, and preliminary and detailed design drawings and documentation.
  • Work with the CSA and Mechanical CAD designers, assisting with development, planning and coordination of engineering designs entailing technical specifications and detailed planning to meet project and client requirements

About You

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have the following

  • Degree qualified mechanical piping engineer with at least 10 years of experience
  • At least 8 years of experience in the design and execution of mining and industrial construction projects with delivery of piping, pumping, mine dewatering infrastructure, including process water and compressed air to the project’s quality and performance requirements.
  • Relevant Professional/Chattered Engineering registration with engineering bodies/councils
  • A detailed understanding of engineering design deliverables including mechanical drawings, piping drawings, equipment datasheets, specifications, MTOs, piping and pumping flow calculations, scope of works for packages and construction.
  • Experienced in pre-commissioning, energization, and testing.
  • Experienced in dealing with packages related to mine piping, pumping and dewatering equipment.
  • Outstanding commitment to HSE and Quality
  • A demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated delivery team.
  • Well-developed contract management skills and commercial acumen.
  • An ability to work autonomously within a highly complex project delivery environment
  • Experience working in developing countries with exposure in coaching and facilitating skills transfer to nationals

It will also be beneficial if you have

  • Underground mine construction experience
  • Experience in dealing with packages related to the supply of mechanical and piping equipment and material
  • Experience managing International engineering service providers/design houses as part of the Owner’s team.

Where you’ll be working

Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
