About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Software Engineer specializing in Autonomy Evaluation within our Simulation and Testing organization. This remote position offers flexibility but requires reporting to designated locations within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, or Mountain View at least three times a week. In this role, you will lead the strategic development and execution of simulation-based validation efforts for autonomous vehicle systems.

Your expertise will be pivotal in designing complex verification and validation strategies, prototyping innovative testing methods, and establishing best practices to ensure the safety and performance of autonomous vehicles in simulated environments. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, influence the future of simulation capabilities, and drive continuous improvement in validation processes to support AI development, systems engineering, and safety assurance.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, robotics, or data analysis.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python, and C++ for large data set analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and derive meaningful insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging in both high-level strategic discussions and detailed technical conversations.
  • Experience validating AI models, robotics, or autonomous vehicle systems (preferred).
  • Background in data engineering and familiarity with ETL tools such as DBT and Airflow (preferred).
  • Experience developing data visualizations using tools like Looker or Jupyter notebooks (preferred).
  • Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Jama, DNG, or DOORS (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and prototyping of comparative strategies to benchmark autonomous system performance.
  • Create and implement simulation evaluation methods to support decision-making throughout continuous release cycles.
  • Define testing requirements and establish metrics to validate the safety, reliability, and comfort of autonomous vehicle operations.
  • Analyze driving behaviors and system performance data to inform and improve the autonomy stack.
  • Mentor team members and facilitate collaboration across teams to develop and refine simulation confidence metrics for new vehicle launches.
  • Shape and influence the future of simulation capabilities by defining validation protocols and standards.
  • Collaborate with AI developers, systems engineers, and safety teams to ensure robust validation methods are integrated into development workflows.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in autonomous vehicle testing, simulation, and validation.
