Principal Data Engineer – AWS & Snowflake (Contract) - Canada Relocation (short term)

Contract Length: 6 months (Relocation + Travel Cover)

Location: Toronto, Canada (relocation from Australia)

This organisation designs and delivers global digital signage and customer experience platforms used across thousands of retail locations worldwide. With a strong focus on modern cloud-native technology, it is investing heavily in scalable data platforms, real-time analytics, and modern engineering capability to support global product delivery. You’ll join an expert team working across architecture and engineering, delivering mission-critical platforms at significant scale.

Primary Purpose of the Role

• Lead the design and delivery of cloud-native data architecture supporting global products.
• Own technical direction across Snowflake and AWS data platforms.
• Enable scalable, secure, and high-performance data pipelines and data products.
• Improve data governance, operational reliability, and engineering standards.
• Provide principal-level leadership and hands-on support to unblock teams and accelerate delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and deliver scalable data solutions across AWS and Snowflake environments.
• Drive best-practice engineering, automation, and platform standards across delivery teams.

Tech Stack (Core Skills Required)

• AWS: S3, IAM, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Redshift (or similar)
• Snowflake
• Data Tools: Airflow, dbt or similar
• Databases: Snowflake, Redshift, Postgres or similar
• Languages & CI/CD: Python, SQL, Terraform/CloudFormation, Git, CI/CD pipelines

Experience & Capabilities

• Proven experience operating as a Principal / Lead Data Engineer or Data Architect.
• Strong engineering and architecture background across AWS + Snowflake.
• Deep capability in SQL, data modelling, governance, and performance optimisation.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence across global teams.
• Experience working in agile, DevOps-led environments delivering at enterprise scale.
