About The Role
The Senior Staff Software Engineer for Autonomy Evaluation is a pivotal role within GM’s Simulation and Testing organization, focusing on advancing simulation-based validation strategies for autonomous vehicles. This remote position offers flexibility but requires reporting to designated locations within a 50-mile radius of Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford, or Mountain View at least three times a week. The engineer will lead efforts in designing, prototyping, and implementing validation and verification (V&V) strategies that ensure the safety, performance, and reliability of autonomous systems.
Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, the successful candidate will influence the future of simulation capabilities, shape validation requirements, and promote best practices in testing autonomous vehicle systems within complex simulated environments. This role demands a strategic thinker with extensive experience in systems engineering, robotics, or data analysis, capable of guiding teams and driving innovation in a fast-paced, safety-critical domain.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.
- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, robotics, or data analysis.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and C++ for large data set analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and derive impactful insights.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging in both high-level strategic discussions and detailed technical conversations.
- Experience in validating AI models, robotics, or autonomous vehicle systems.
- Background in data engineering, with familiarity in ETL tools such as DBT and Airflow.
- Experience creating data visualizations using tools like Looker or Jupyter notebooks.
- Proven success in systems engineering for safety-critical products and familiarity with requirements management tools such as Jama, DNG, or DOORS.
- Develop and prototype comparative strategies to benchmark the performance of autonomy systems.
- Create simulation evaluation methodologies to support decision-making in continuous release cycles.
- Define validation requirements and performance metrics to ensure safe and comfortable autonomous vehicle operations.
- Analyze driving behaviors and system responses to inform system performance improvements.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to establish simulation confidence metrics for new vehicle launches.
- Mentor team members and facilitate cross-team collaboration to enhance validation processes.
- Shape future simulation capability requirements, ensuring they meet evolving testing needs for AI development and safety assurance.
