Data Engineer (Azure) – Contract

Location: Texas (Remote)

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Employment Type: Contract

Rate: $100/hour

Work Authorization: Must be eligible to work in the U.S.


Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with strong Microsoft Azure expertise to support the design, development, and optimization of modern data platforms. This is a 12-month remote contract role supporting teams based in Texas. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building scalable, cloud-based data pipelines and working with large datasets in Azure environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Azure data services
  • Build and optimize ETL/ELT workflows for structured and unstructured data
  • Implement and manage data solutions using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Lake
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries and data models for analytics and reporting
  • Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across data platforms
  • Implement best practices for data security, governance, and compliance
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data workflows and system performance
  • Support cloud data migrations and modernization initiatives


Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or similar role
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data services
  • Proficiency in Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Lake
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience with relational databases
  • Experience building batch and/or streaming data pipelines
  • Strong understanding of data modeling and data warehousing concepts
  • Experience with Python, Spark, or similar data processing frameworks
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Databricks and PySpark
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in Azure
  • Experience working in agile development environments
  • Exposure to BI tools such as Power BI
  • Prior experience in enterprise or large-scale data environments
