About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Backend Software Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and delivering innovative backend solutions that enhance the functionality and performance of our products. You will work on complex architectural challenges, create scalable solutions used across teams, and lead technical initiatives that drive the company's strategic goals. This position requires a deep understanding of software development lifecycle processes, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to mentor and influence other engineers. As a key contributor, you will set standards for code quality and architectural best practices, ensuring that our backend systems remain robust, scalable, and efficient. This role is fully remote and requires you to be located in either the US Pacific or Mountain time zones.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in software or technology leadership roles with end-to-end responsibility throughout the development lifecycle
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (advanced degrees preferred)
• Expertise in one or more programming languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala
• Hands-on experience with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS models and public cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure
• Strong ability to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, and resource utilization
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing decision-makers at various levels
• Customer-centric approach to technical decision-making

Responsibilities

• Unblock challenges in the software development cycle, from technical design to deployment
• Create and implement solutions utilized by multiple teams and products, managing large projects from conception to launch
• Address complex architecture challenges, ensuring adherence to architectural standards in new projects
• Lead code reviews, documentation efforts, and handle complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk issues
• Establish standards for meaningful code reviews and collaborate across engineering teams on company-wide initiatives
• Transfer knowledge and expertise in your primary programming language to foster team growth
• Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence
