About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer specializing in Security Observability to join our Security team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and maintaining secure and scalable systems that bolster our security observability infrastructure. Your expertise will enable OpenAI to enhance its security detection and response capabilities by developing robust software solutions that integrate seamlessly across our infrastructure. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Detection & Response (D&R), to reduce security risks, improve forensic investigations, and ensure compliance with security standards. This position offers flexibility for remote work or relocation assistance to our offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software engineering, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and a focus on security data visibility.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
- Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.
- Strong background in building and maintaining data pipelines for security-related use cases.
- Knowledge of security observability, forensic investigations, and compliance processes.
- Generalist engineering mindset with the ability to pivot across domains such as databases, SRE, or security.
- Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with security and engineering teams.
- Proactive, detail-oriented approach to solving complex technical problems.
- Experience in designing scalable, resilient data systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable software systems that facilitate comprehensive security observability across OpenAI’s infrastructure.
- Build and maintain data pipelines that centralize and store security-relevant data from diverse sources.
- Proactively enhance the resilience and reliability of data systems to ensure high platform availability and security monitoring capabilities.
- Collaborate with Detection & Response (D&R) and other security teams to identify, analyze, and mitigate security risks effectively.
- Support forensic investigations and compliance efforts through advanced data engineering techniques.
- Implement security best practices in software development and infrastructure management.
- Continuously evaluate and improve data visibility tools to stay ahead of emerging security threats.
- Participate in cross-team initiatives to develop security automation and detection solutions.
