Senior Commercial Project Manager - Renewable Energy
Location: Saint Paul, MN
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $145,000 - $160,000 base + bonuses (10% target profit sharing + 3-5% productivity bonus)
Relocation Assistance: $2,500-$12,000 (depending on location)
Beacon Hill's client in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a Senior Commercial Project Manager with a strong background in commercial portfolio management and experience in solar, renewable energy, or utility-scale projects. This role focuses on managing large-scale commercial solar projects (500kW-25MW) and leading a team of project managers.
You will oversee planning, scheduling, procurement, and execution for complex projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and exceptional customer experience. This position reports directly to the Director of Commercial Operations and will manage two current Project Managers while hiring 1-2 additional team members.
- Project Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop and manage project schedules using critical path theory.
- Coordinate design, engineering, procurement, construction, activation, and close-out phases.
- Subcontractor & Supplier Management
- Oversee subcontractor qualification, contract negotiation, and performance.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Budget & Financial Oversight
- Prepare and review project budgets.
- Manage pay applications and change orders.
- Team Leadership
- Lead, train, and develop the Commercial Project Management team.
- Assign projects based on skill level and workload.
- Hire additional project support roles as needed.
- Stakeholder Communication
- Liaise with internal teams and external partners for permits, inspections, and approvals.
- Maintain strong customer relationships and communicate project status updates.
- Experience
- 5+ years in commercial project management within solar or renewable energy (required).
- Proven leadership experience managing teams.
- Certifications
- OSHA 10 (required).
- OSHA 30 (required within 30 days if not current).
- Project Management certification (required within 18 months if not current).
- Technical Skills
- Knowledge of solar PV systems, inverters, battery storage, and permitting.
- Familiarity with electrical codes and building standards.
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Salesforce, NetSuite (preferred).
- Core Competencies
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and subcontractors.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel and work in commercial field conditions.
- Profit-sharing bonus (10% target) + productivity bonus (3-5%).
