About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer specializing in Security Observability to join our dynamic Security team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing and building secure, scalable systems that bolster OpenAI's security observability infrastructure. Your expertise will enable the collection, analysis, and visualization of security data across our infrastructure, enhancing our ability to detect, respond to, and mitigate security threats effectively. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Detection & Response (D&R), to develop robust software solutions that improve our security posture. This position offers flexibility for remote work, with relocation assistance available to our offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City. Your contributions will directly support OpenAI’s mission to develop safe and beneficial AI technologies.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform
- Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure
- Strong background in building and maintaining data pipelines for security use cases
- Knowledge of security monitoring, detection, and forensic investigation techniques
- Familiarity with data engineering principles and practices
- Understanding of site reliability engineering (SRE) concepts
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly
- Proactive problem-solving skills with attention to detail and security best practices
- Experience in scalable system design and high-availability architectures
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable software systems that enable comprehensive security observability across OpenAI’s infrastructure
- Build and optimize data pipelines to centralize security-relevant data from diverse sources, ensuring data integrity and accessibility
- Enhance the resilience and reliability of data systems to support high platform availability and operational continuity
- Collaborate with Detection & Response (D&R) teams and other security groups to identify security gaps and implement effective solutions
- Support forensic investigations and compliance efforts through data engineering and analysis
- Continuously evaluate and improve security monitoring tools, data collection methods, and infrastructure security protocols
- Participate in cross-team projects to develop and refine security detection and response capabilities
- Stay informed on emerging security threats and incorporate best practices into system design and implementation
