Job Description
Backend Developer - Fully Remote - £60K + Benefits
My client is a small but fast-moving tech start-up on a mission to build something genuinely game-changing. The company is still early in their journey, small team, big ideas and they're looking for someone who wants to help shape a product, not just code one.
If you’re excited by the idea of joining a start-up where your voice matters, where your work directly impacts the roadmap, and where you’ll grow alongside the company, get in touch.
The Role
My client is hiring a Backend Developer who’s passionate about building scalable, reliable backend systems in a modern stack. You’ll be one of the first engineering hires, which means you’ll play a key role in shaping their architecture, development practices, and engineering culture.
This is a fully remote role, but the team meets virtually throughout the week and gets together in person every so often for planning, collaboration, and the occasional social.
What You’ll Be Working On
- Designing and building backend services and APIs
- Collaborating with the founding team to develop new features end-to-end
- Improving system performance, reliability, and observability as they scale
- Integrating external services and expanding platform capabilities
Our Tech Stack
- Node.js / TypeScript (core backend choice)
- PostgreSQL and Redis
- REST or GraphQL APIs
- AWS (Lambda, ECS, RDS) or similar cloud platforms
- Docker, GitHub Actions, and automated testing
What They're Looking For
- Strong backend development experience (Node.js or similar)
- A solid understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and database design
- Good instincts around performance, security, and scalability
- Someone comfortable in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
- A proactive mindset you see gaps and love filling them
- A collaborator who’s happy working remotely but communicates clearly
Nice to Have
- Experience with serverless, event-driven systems, or microservices
- Interest in DevOps/infra or willingness to learn
- Previous experience as an early-stage hire
