Job Description

Chevron’s Business Support Center (BASSC), located in Buenos Aires, is accepting applications for the position of Automation & Observability Architect. Successful candidates will join the IT Organization, which is part of a multifunction service center with a workforce of more than 1800 employees that deliver business services and solutions to the corporation across the globe.

The Automation & Observability Architect defines the vision, architecture, and standards for automation and observability across OT/PCN and enterprise environments. This role provides technical leadership to design scalable, secure, and resilient solutions that enable end-to-end visibility and reliability of critical services. The architect partners with product owners, SREs, and platform teams to establish architectural patterns, enforce governance, and guide implementation of CI/CD, telemetry, and ITSM integrations. The position influences technology roadmaps, ensures alignment with compliance frameworks, and mentors engineering teams to deliver high-quality, automated operations.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to

  • Architect observability frameworks: define instrumentation standards for metrics, logs, and traces; design dashboards and alerting strategies aligned to business KPIs and user experience.
  • Set reliability architecture: establish SLIs/SLOs/error budgets as part of system design; embed resilience patterns and failure-mode analysis into solutions.
  • Design automation pipelines: architect CI/CD workflows (Azure DevOps) for multi-environment deployments; enforce security and compliance gates.
  • Integrate ITSM and telemetry: define patterns for ServiceNow integration (incident/change automation, CMDB enrichment) and ensure observability data flows into operational workflows.
  • Govern compliance telemetry: incorporate SolarWinds NCM outputs and device health into architectural blueprints for network and system compliance.
  • Lead vendor and stakeholder engagement: drive technical design sessions, evaluate third-party solutions, and ensure interoperability with enterprise platforms.
  • Publish architecture artifacts: create high-level and detailed design documents, reference architectures, and data-flow diagrams; maintain architectural decision records.
  • Mentor and enable teams: guide engineers on best practices for automation, observability, and reliability; support knowledge transfer across global teams.
  • Influence technology strategy: contribute to roadmap planning, tool selection, and standards for observability and automation platforms.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years in software/platform engineering with at least 3+ years in architecture or technical leadership roles.
  • Proven expertise in observability design (metrics/logs/traces), dashboarding, and alerting strategies for complex systems.
  • Strong experience architecting CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent) and enforcing governance for secure deployments.
  • Deep understanding of SRE principles—SLIs/SLOs, error budgets—and ability to embed them in system architecture.
  • Hands-on knowledge of ServiceNow ITSM and integration patterns for automation and CMDB enrichment.
  • Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Python) for automation and orchestration.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to present architectural decisions to technical and business audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to OT/PCN environments and associated security/compliance constraints.
  • Experience integrating SolarWinds NCM compliance telemetry into architectural frameworks.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow CMDB/service mapping, IntegrationHub, and automation workflows.
  • Certifications such as ITIL 4, ServiceNow Architect or CIS, Azure Solutions Architect, or SRE Foundation.
  • Background in designing observability solutions using modern frameworks (e.g., OpenTelemetry) and event correlation platforms.
