About The Role
We are seeking a Principal/Staff Software Engineer to join our Ledgering team within the Financial Platform organization at Block. This role is remote, with a preference for candidates located in the Bay Area, CA, US. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining our critical ledgering infrastructure that processes millions of transactions daily with high accuracy and reliability. As a key contributor, you will drive strategic technical initiatives, influence organizational standards, and mentor engineering teams across multiple regions including the United States, Australia, and Europe. Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience working on complex, high-scale software systems
- Proven leadership in strategic or large-scale technical initiatives
- Strong expertise in designing durable, scalable systems with a focus on transaction processing
- Experience mentoring and developing engineering teams
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and a curiosity-driven mindset
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with internal teams and senior leadership
- Ability to operate effectively in a globally distributed organization
- Technical proficiency in Java, Kotlin, MySQL, Vitess, AWS, Kafka, and related technologies
- Familiarity with event-driven architecture, gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and modern API standards
- Experience with AI integration and embedding automation into engineering practices is a plus
