Senior Data Engineer - Big Data Stack

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong experience in BI and Big Data technologies to join our client's team. The role focuses on data modeling, ETL development, and integration within a Cloudera/Hortonworks ecosystem. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise with Airflow, Spark, HDFS, Hive, and Python, along with strong analytical thinking and a solid understanding of BI concepts.

Start date: 01/2026 (till the end of July 2026)

Prolongation: Very likely, based on mutual satisfaction

Location & working model: fully remote with only very occasional exceptional travel to Prague

Languages: CZ/SK required; English not required but an advantage

Cooperation: COW (HPP/TPP) or B2B

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain data models, DDL, and ETL/ELT processes
• Build and orchestrate workflows using Airflow
• Work with HDFS, Hive, and Spark within the Cloudera/Hortonworks ecosystem
• Ensure data quality, performance, and reliability across pipelines
• Collaborate with other teams to integrate and deliver scalable data solutions
• Use CI/CD practices, version control, and containerization (Docker)
• Support data integration with DB2, DataStage, Cognos BI, and Power BI

Skillset Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience in IT
• Solid understanding of Business Intelligence domain concepts, including 3-layer architecture
• Proven experience as a BI Developer (data modeling, DDL, ETL development)
• Strong hands-on experience with Cloudera/Hortonworks Big Data stack
• Practical experience with: Airflow, HDFS, Hive, Spark
• At least one Cloudera certification (Administration and/or Developer) - plus
• Proficient in Python and Linux
• Understanding of CI/CD concepts and working with code repositories
• Knowledge of Docker and general awareness of Kubernetes
• Experience working with RDBMS, specifically DB2
• Knowledge of DataStage, Cognos BI, and Power BI
