Senior Staff Software Engineer, Backend - Platform

This role offers the chance to design and build a highly scalable payments platform within a cutting-edge technology environment. You will work on processing high-volume transactions while developing robust backend systems and APIs, collaborating closely with engineers, product managers, and designers. The position requires both hands-on coding expertise and strategic technical leadership, guiding architecture decisions and mentoring junior engineers. You will be responsible for enhancing system performance, reliability, and compliance while contributing to the long-term roadmap of backend platform initiatives. This role is fully remote within India but will require periodic in-person collaboration.

Accountabilities

• Architect, develop, and maintain backend systems for high-volume payment processing platforms.
• Collaborate with technical leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams to define strategic roadmaps.
• Plan and implement multi-year engineering strategies for backend platform initiatives.
• Write high-quality, well-tested, scalable, and secure code while maintaining hands-on involvement in development.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers on design principles, coding standards, and best practices.
• Engage with upstream teams to enforce SLAs for data availability and quality.
• Troubleshoot complex issues and continuously improve system reliability, performance, and scalability.
  
  

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in software engineering with extensive backend development expertise.
• 2+ years of experience architecting large-scale, big data systems (e.g., Apache Spark, Hive).
• Strong experience in backend development languages and frameworks; familiarity with Golang, gRPC, Docker, and SQL is a plus.
• Proven ability to mentor and up-level junior engineers, fostering a high standard of engineering practices.
• Hands-on experience with building scalable, high-performance systems and implementing best-in-class software engineering processes.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills in a remote or distributed team environment.
