About The Role
As a Fullstack Engineer on the Contributor Success team at GitLab, you will play a vital role in enhancing the productivity and engagement of our vibrant contributor community. Your primary focus will be on driving initiatives that empower community members to contribute effectively to GitLab’s open source projects, supporting key programs such as Education, Open Source, AI tooling, and Contributor Success. You will lead project planning, coach cohorts of community members, and work closely with both internal teams and external contributors to track and accelerate contributions. Your efforts will have a direct impact on how thousands of developers interact with GitLab, helping to grow and sustain a diverse, active, and thriving community. The role offers opportunities to travel for customer onboarding and contribution guidance, providing a unique blend of technical expertise and community leadership within GitLab’s remote, asynchronous, and values-driven environment.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in fullstack development with Ruby and JavaScript
- Strong understanding of Git and source control workflows
- Experience contributing to open source projects and communities
- Excellent coaching skills for both technical and non-technical community members
- Effective communication skills, including public speaking and customer interaction
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and project management skills
- Comfortable working remotely and asynchronously across distributed teams
- Openness to diverse backgrounds and transferable skills
- Commitment to GitLab’s values and inclusive culture
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage contributor success projects to enhance community engagement and contribution output
- Coach and guide cohorts of community members, providing technical and non-technical support
- Track, analyze, and report on community contributions to identify areas for improvement
- Collaborate with the Programs team to support initiatives such as Education, Open Source, AI tooling, and contributor programs
- Advocate for community feedback-driven improvements to enhance the contributor experience
- Participate as a core member of GitLab’s merge request coaching team, focusing on development, testing, or documentation
- Facilitate team stand-ups and agile processes within the Contributor Success team
- Travel to customer sites to onboard new contributors and foster stronger relationships
