On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled Integration & Validation System Engineer to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.

What Is Expected From You

We are looking for an experienced System Engineer/Radio Frequency Engineer to support the System Compatibility Test Campaign (SCTC) and the Radio Frequency Compatibility Test (RFCT) activities for the GALILEO program. The role ensures the verification of compatibility between the Ground and Space segments, both at the data and RF levels, helping to identify and resolve potential issues before satellite launch campaigns.

The SCTC & RFCT System Engineer will play a critical role in the design, integration, validation, and maintenance of test setups, as well as in the procurement and management of specialized RF equipment. The position involves close collaboration with ESA, TASI, and other key stakeholders in a highly dynamic international environment.

  • Support the design, procurement, integration, validation, and operation of SCTC and RFCT test set-ups (hardware & software).
  • Assist in developing end-to-end testing approaches without requiring a complete satellite.
  • Contribute to maintaining and validating SCTC and RFCT set-ups with minimal downtime during campaigns.
  • Support the management of SCTC and RFCT equipment logistics (transport, liability, insurance, spare parts, etc.).
  • Support ESA and TASI in developing training materials and delivering training sessions on SCTC/RFCT systems.
  • Support ESA and TASI in performing test dry-runs and validating test procedures.
  • Actively support Agency meetings (TRR, PTR, TRB, NRB, VCB, CCB, MTP), with special focus on anomaly management (NCRs).
  • Manage the procurement of RF components, coordinate calibration of procured equipment, and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Contribute to quarterly reports (QPM) and presentations.
  • Analyzing and interpreting test results, preparing technical reports.

What You Offer

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in space, aerospace, telecom, or high-tech IT environments (internships and thesis projects may count).
  • Previous exposure to international and/or multicultural teams.
  • Solid experience working with Linux environments (2+ years).
  • Experience with software development (preferably Java) and system integration.
  • Basic knowledge of GNSS receivers, RF systems, or cryptographic equipment is an asset (training provided).
  • Familiarity with ESA standards (ECSS) is desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Understanding of networking, IP protocols, ports, and virtualization in Linux OS.
  • Ability to learn and support end-to-end test scenarios in Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of SCTC & RFCT equipment, GNSS receivers, EGSE, or RF components (preferred but can be acquired on the job).
  • Knowledge in procurement and calibration processes for RF hardware
  • Programming knowledge (preferably Java).
  • Familiarity with version control (SVN, GIT).
  • Cyber-security accreditation skills (e.g., PRS equipment handling, CRYPTO key management).
  • Strong team player with a willingness to support senior engineers and Agency team
  • Flexibility to adapt in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and ability to document results.
  • Motivation to grow into a specialized role in GNSS space programs.

Where

You will be working within ESTEC, the European Space Agency’s offices in the Netherlands as a contractor for Telespazio Belgium. We don’t expect the employees to be on-site full time however you will still have to relocate to the Netherlands for this position.
