Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to help us build and scale Tongo’s next-generation data and analytics platform. This role will focus on designing, orchestrating, and optimizing data pipelines and models across Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow, ensuring data integrity, performance, and compliance within our fintech ecosystem.

You’ll work closely with data scientists, backend engineers, and finance teams to power insights that drive Tongo’s products and risk decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable data pipelines using Airflow, dbt, and Snowflake to move and transform data from operational systems, APIs, and third-party financial platforms.
  • Develop robust data models (fact/dimension, star schema, denormalized layers) optimized for analytics and financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain regular BI reporting dashboards and delivery processes.
  • Automate ETL/ELT processes, data validation, and quality checks using Python and SQL.
  • Partner with analytics, finance, and product teams to deliver trusted datasets for risk modeling, payment reconciliation, and revenue analytics.
  • Implement and enforce data governance, security, and compliance (SOC2, PCI).
  • Continuously tune performance and cost efficiency of Snowflake workloads.
  • Collaborate with DevOps to establish CI/CD pipelines for data workflows.
  • Document data lineage, models, and process flows for transparency and scale.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of experience as a Data Engineer, ideally in fintech, payments, or financial services.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python for data transformation and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake (warehouses, performance tuning, role-based access, and data sharing).
  • Strong command of dbt for modular data transformations, testing, and documentation.
  • Proven experience with Apache Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
  • Knowledge of ETL best practices, data modeling, and pipeline observability.
  • Familiarity with financial datasets, APIs, or banking integrations (ACH, payouts, commissions, etc.) is a plus.
  • Understanding of data security and compliance in a regulated environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, ECS, or Glue).
  • Familiarity with event streaming (Kafka, Kinesis) and real-time analytics.
  • Exposure to reverse ETL, Segment, or BI tools (Superset, Looker, Mode, Tableau).
  • Exposure to Hubspot including underlying data models.
  • Understanding of Agentic AI workflow tools (n8n, Zapier)
  • Background in machine learning data pipelines or risk scoring models.

Soft Skills

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced startup.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Ownership mentality with a passion for clean, scalable, and well-documented data.
  • Curiosity for fintech innovation and real-estate technology.

What We Offer

  • 100% remote work with flexible hours.
  • Competitive salary and equity participation.
  • The opportunity to shape the data foundation of one of fintech’s most innovative payment platforms for real-estate professionals.
