What We’re Looking For:

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our engineering team and guide the technical direction of our digital platform. This role will be a player-coach – balancing hands-on coding, architecture decisions, and team leadership. You will be responsible for scaling our headless Shopify e-commerce experience, ensuring high-quality engineering practices, and partnering closely with Product and Design to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

This is a critical leadership position where you’ll shape the future of Proven’s technology stack and mentor a growing team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership:

• Define and evolve Proven’s technology architecture, with a focus on headless Shopify, Remix, React, Node, and Hydrogen/Oxygen.
• Own the Shopify integration end-to-end — including custom apps, APIs, subscription logic, and performance optimization.
• Lead decisions around system design, scalability, and security for our e-commerce platform.
• Champion AI-assisted development workflows (Cursor, Copilot, etc.) to increase development velocity and quality.
• Translate business objectives into scalable, maintainable, and testable technical solutions.

Player-Coach Execution:

• Contribute hands-on to codebase, especially for complex features or architectural initiatives.
• Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices across the team.

Team Leadership & Development:

• Recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Work with Product and Design to align on priorities and ensure efficient delivery.

Operational Excellence:

• Establish processes for CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and documentation.
• Own performance, uptime, reliability, and scalability of Proven’s e-commerce platforms.

Who You Are:

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years of engineering leadership experience (team lead, manager, or player-coach).
• Required: Hands-on experience with Shopify — ideally headless implementations using Hydrogen, Remix, or custom storefronts built with Shopify APIs.
• Expertise in React, Remix, Node.js, and related modern web technologies.
• Strong understanding of Shopify’s ecosystem, including storefront APIs, custom app development, and checkout customization.
• Background in building scalable, high-performance e-commerce systems.
• Strong communicator who can work seamlessly with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Passionate about AI-forward development and using emerging tools to accelerate software delivery.

• Experience scaling subscription-based businesses.
• Track record of building engineering cultures that embrace AI tools and continuous learning.

Annual salary range: $160,000 - $180,000
