About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Data Scientist specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to join our dynamic team. This role is designed for a hands-on, development-oriented professional with extensive experience in AI/ML/NLP and data modeling. The successful candidate will lead efforts to develop prototypes of emerging technologies that address complex business challenges, ensuring seamless integration within cloud-native environments. The position offers an excellent opportunity to work remotely from anywhere in the continental U.S., contributing to innovative projects that impact national security and enterprise solutions. The Principal Data Scientist will operate within an energetic team, driving modernization and innovation initiatives, and mentoring junior staff to foster a culture of continuous learning and technological advancement.
Qualifications
- MA/MS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in data analytics, data modeling, machine learning, NLP, and AI technologies
- Proven expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture and integration of AI/ML solutions
- Experience developing prototypes, pilots, and proof of concept solutions
- Knowledge of cybersecurity policies and compliance standards, including Authorization To Operate (ATO)
- Excellent programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Java
- Experience with predictive modeling, statistical analysis, and data visualization
- Ability to develop reusable code libraries and best practices for modernization
- Strong communication skills for presenting technical concepts to executive and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to mentor junior team members and promote best practices in data science
- U.S. residency with at least two consecutive years living in the U.S.; U.S. citizenship not mandatory but must be eligible to obtain Public Trust clearance
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain an innovation lab dedicated to ideation, design, and engineering of cloud-native product modernization using emerging technologies
- Develop comprehensive plans for AI/ML/NLP innovations that adhere to cybersecurity and compliance standards
- Design, develop, and engineer pilots, prototypes, and proof of concept solutions to validate emerging technologies and modernization efforts
- Implement transparency, traceability, and security measures aligned with industry best practices and applicable standards, including ATO certifications
- Apply predictive models, machine learning algorithms, and statistical analyses to solve complex business problems effectively
- Create low-risk implementation strategies and communicate findings, recommendations, and demonstrations clearly to executives and technical teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineering, product management, and business units to translate requirements into data-driven solutions
- Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover actionable insights from large, complex datasets
- Support initiatives aimed at enhancing customer and user experience through human-centered design principles, focus groups, and wireframing
- Develop and maintain reusable code libraries, tools, and best practices for ongoing modernization and innovation projects
- Mentor junior data scientists, guiding them in adopting new technologies and techniques
- Stay current with advancements in AI, machine learning, cloud architectures, and data science research
- Support Agile teams in integrating emerging technologies into operational workflows and data strategies
- Analyze data usage patterns to identify opportunities for process improvements and innovative solutions
