Job Description
Machine Learning Research Engineer
Fully Remote in the United States
Must be able to obtain security clearance (US Citizen)
$110,000 - $130,000 base
About the Opportunity
Join a small, high-caliber research team pushing the boundaries of AI system design. This group operates at the intersection of applied research and advanced engineering, developing a next-generation system that doesn’t just learn from data, but rewrites and evolves its own source code. You’ll work alongside senior scientists with decades of experience in ML/AI, helping to extend the state of the art and deliver technology that supports real-world, high-impact applications.
What You’ll Do
- Build and maintain LLM-based pipelines and supporting Python codebases
- Collaborate closely with principal scientists to translate conceptual models into working systems
- Extend and optimize existing simulation frameworks to predict complex, dynamic environments
- Participate in field events to integrate and demonstrate research systems (occasional domestic travel)
What We’re Looking For
- Graduate degree in a technical field (PhD strongly preferred)
- At least 5 years of hands-on programming experience, with proficiency in Python
- Curiosity and adaptability. Eager to learn advanced AI methods and contribute to experimental system design
Nice to Have
- Experience with LLM APIs, FastAPI, Docker, or similar modern tooling
- Background in metaprogramming, Pydantic, or distributed systems
- Familiarity with classic ML or deep learning frameworks (e.g., Hugging Face)
Why This Role Is Exciting
You’ll have the rare opportunity to work on AI that builds itself, applying research concepts to systems that evolve autonomously. The environment is collaborative, exploratory, and fast-moving, offering both intellectual depth and tangible real-world impact.
This is a remote role with occasional travel (think quarterly) across the United States.
If this role aligns well with your experience, please apply and email Emma at emmaspagnola@harnham.com with your resume. Thanks in advance!
