Salary: Competitive + Equity Potential
Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Start Date: ASAP

The Opportunity Are you a hands-on Electrical & Automation Engineer, ready to apply your skills to tackle one of the world’s biggest environmental challenges?

We're supporting an early-stage climate tech start-up, based in Munich, that’s pioneering a novel, clean-tech process to convert mixed plastic waste into valuable chemical building blocks—without using traditional pyrolysis methods. With their first 24/7 demonstration plant set to launch, they’re building a core team to help scale this breakthrough technology.

This role offers a chance to lead the instrumentation and automation efforts for a truly unique process, working at the intersection of engineering, sustainability, and innovation.

What You’ll Be Doing As a Electrical & Automation Engineer, you’ll play a central role in designing and implementing safe, smart control systems and shaping the next phase of technical scale-up.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and building instrumentation systems (e.g. flow, pressure, gas sensors) for high-quality process monitoring and data capture

  • Leading the development of PLC, HMI/SCADA, and safety control loops for a pilot and demonstration plant

  • Implementing a fully remote-controlled system for plant operations

  • Managing the data acquisition and process control software ecosystem

  • Overseeing specification, calibration, and testing of all critical components

  • Contributing to P&IDs, safety risk assessments, HAZOP studies, and plant simulations

  • Collaborating cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams in a fast-moving, integrated team culture

Who We’re Looking For You’ll thrive in this role if you’re someone who enjoys problem-solving at the frontier of science and sustainability.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • 2+ years of experience in process control, instrumentation, or automation in the chemical or process industries

  • Prior hands-on work with pilot or demonstration-scale process systems

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • PLC programming(e.g. Siemens S7 / TIA Portal)
    • Design and review low-voltage electrical systems and cable routing
    • Specify switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and UPS systems

  • Familiarity with sensor technologies, gas-phase instrumentation, and functional safety (SIL, etc.)

  • A collaborative, proactive mindset with a willingness to adapt in a fast-paced start-up environment

  • Fluent in English (or alternatively German)

Why Join?
  • Be part of a mission-driven start-up tackling the global plastic waste crisis

  • Own critical parts of the technology and see your work come to life in a real plant

  • Work with a cross-functional, supportive team that values innovation and impact

  • Experience professional growth, autonomy, and the chance to shape both product and company

  • Munich-based HQ with flexibility to support  international candidates
