Hapag-Lloyd AG seeks a strategic AI Engineering Specialist to integrate AI and LLMs across the software development lifecycle. This role involves identifying use cases, driving adoption of AI tools, and transforming processes for over 500 developers. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, develop best practices, and deliver enablement initiatives to foster innovation and agility. The position requires strong technical skills in Java and Python, coupled with expertise in AI concepts and prompt engineering.

Key Highlights
Identify and implement AI use cases across the software development lifecycle (requirements, development, testing, UX/UI, support).
Drive adoption of AI tools like GitHub Copilot, AI code review assistants, and internal copilots.
Develop and share reusable prompt templates and patterns for LLM integration.
Create AI usage playbooks, best practices, and guidelines.
Design and deliver enablement initiatives (workshops, training).
Stay updated on emerging AI/GenAI/LLM technologies.
Contribute to Hapag-Lloyd's strategy of becoming more agile and innovative.

Job Description


We are looking for a strategic, technically fluent, and hands-on AI Engineering Specialist to explore and adopt AI technologies across the software development lifecycle that fits best with our organization. You will identify impactful AI use cases in areas such as requirements, development, documentation, testing, UX/UI design, and internal support, and help transform them into real productivity gains for our 500+ developers and 40+ internal products. You’ll work closely with engineering, product, design, and operations teams, acting both as a researcher and a hands-on integrator of AI transformation.
  • Explore and evaluate opportunities to apply AI and LLMs across the product lifecycle: requirements, development, code review, documentation, UI/UX design, user support, product analytics, and more.
  • Customize and drive adoption of AI tools like GitHub Copilot, AI-powered code review assistants, documentation generation, internal copilots, and no-code/low-code AI assistants.
  • Develop and share reusable prompt templates and patterns that help product teams integrate LLMs into development, documentation, and support workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their processes and help embed AI into their workflows.
  • Create and maintain AI usage playbooks, best practices, and guidelines for different teams and roles.
  • Design and deliver enablement initiatives: workshops, training sessions, internal talks, hands-on labs.
  • Stay up to date with emerging AI/GenAI/LLM technologies and continuously assess their potential value to the company.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in Java programming
  • 1-2 years of Python
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC and best practices  
  • Good experience with AI tools including LLMs, machine learning concepts, and prompt engineering  
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills with a passion for mentoring and knowledge sharing
  • High proficiency in spoken and written English and very good communication skills  

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) and AI integration patterns
  • Experience working with product design and UX/UI teams (e.g., Figma AI, visual AI tools)
  • Exposure to data analytics, summarization, or internal search/chatbots using LLMs
  • Background in teaching, coaching, or developer advocacy
  • Experience piloting or evaluating AI vendors/tools
  • Understanding of AI governance, security, and policy considerations
